I use the Tactrix cable to make the connection from the laptop to the ECU. I recommend purchasing it through our sponsor Lloyd at www.TunerTools.com but you can also get it from www.Tactrix.com

I use ECUFlash from www.openecu.org to download the stock ROM out of the ECU and to upload my custom flash. It's free and works on EVOs and Subarus for adjusting the fuel and timing maps.

I use Evoscan to log variables like RPM, Timing, Knock, Narrowband 02, LoadCalc, TPS etc.. you can get it here http://www.limitless.co.nz/evoscan/ There's also a free alternative that doesn't have all of the fancy gauges called Mitsulogger and you can get it here www.aktivematrix.com

yeah I think I paid ~ 80 for the cable, 25 for evoscan logging software and ecu flash was free.

You'll need to find some logging software that works with that cable for the subaru.

It looks like we'll use the tactrix cable to connect to the laptop/ecu, ecuflash to download and edit the tune and enginuity (I'm not familiar with this one) to do the logging.

order up.

I just shot some video of me demonstrating how to connect the Tactrix ODBII cable, download the stock rom with Ecuflash, log with Evoscan and upload your new Mellon Tuning flash file. I'll put the video up just as soon as it's done encoding. I've got a cold and sound kind of nasal

Baptized by fire

Well, I had my first taste of the real hardcore street racing scene last night. I had been called out by a local 12 sec. WRX...

Let me say first that when I picked up My Evo IX MR, I had look into the tune... The logs I took and the things that Mellon found were SCARY!

So I have been taking it pretty easy on the car as we work on the tune to get things straightened out. (getting knock under control and getting the safety features back in place)

That being the reason - I had yet to practice launching and/or running thru the gears full bore. I've only had the car about 2 weeks, and we're just now getting it settled down.

So I arrange to meet this WRX... when I arrive at the meeting spot, I find out he's brought about 6 other guys from the local racing forums.

They take me out to this dark country highway, and we line the cars up to do a couple roll-ons at 25mph... The WRX pulls along side, and all I could hear over the exhaust is "Something or other Beep" - Then the case cars start honking, so I take off at the third beep, I hear him put the pedal down as well... After I put down 3 cars on him, he pulls up and says, he wanted me to beep

We line up again to roll on at 25mph, after the 3rd beep, I hit full boost and start to pull on him pretty hard, I try to hard to force the shifter (still getting used to the 6 speed) and I miss 3rd... I re-adjust and he pulls close... I pull ahead in 4th and I miss 5th ARRRGGHHH!! Still I think we were pretty even as we shut down at about 120mph

So for the 3rd race we go from a dig. I had never tried out the 2 step launch control, so I line up and gently rev it up to 6k where the limiter sits right now... I hear the car start to fire back "Pah Pah Pah Pah!!"

"Oh yeah" I say to myself... We launch hard off the 3rd beep... HOLY HELL! 6k launch = AWESOME! Perfect, smooth NO clutch smell! I'm glad I had all that practice on my old Talon! I pull at least 1 car thru 1st, grab second, still sure I'm pulling hard, when I try to hit 3rd, I overshoot and throw it in 5th!!! Well I just keep the pedal to the floor as he starts to creep up on me, he finally pulls even at about 130mph...

Well I definitly had the faster car, even though Mellon is not done with the tune yet... Just need to work on the driver mod, but that will come with time.

My IX has TBE, MBC, K&N panel filter and an "in progress" Mellon tune

WRX Had "Big" 16G turbo, Fuel pump, Injectors, Perrin fuel rails, Crank pulley, Cat back (not sure if de-catted or not), GP moto equal length headers and up pipe combo, and a locally done custom Re-flash to run on E-85...

PS he says thats what he's done in the past year.
