I am not up on my e-knowledge of usless
. But I do know that any f/i in that climate will not live up to it's potential as if it were in let's say Memphis ~ 200 ft above sea level. So to say this xxx hp cobra or xxx hp dsm should run xx.xx at the track is misleading due to that climate... But the guy in the vette drove like most vette owners, timid.

high altitude affects superchargers but not turbos.. because the turbos have the wastegate that regulate the boost or something forgot the reason.. but turbos arent affected as much as s/c's.. either way i can careless my ass isnt going anywhere nearly as cold as colorado..
im surprised they even have small cars im sure u guys get a load of snow.. if i was up there id get a turbo diesel truck and fuck around on that in the snow. |

we get a load of snow, but because there is no humidity what so ever here and the sun is very strong due to the altitude the snow doesn;t stay around very long. it will snow 5 inches and be gone by noon the next day. the problem is the over use of sand that the city thinks helps, but all it does is break windshields!
yes superchargers are at more of a disadvantage than turbo cars for a few reasons. wastegate regulated so the wastegate will not close until it sees the correct pressure, but there is less oxygen in that same charge so you are only able to mix so much fuel with it and that is why the power is limited. SC obviously can only spin as fast as the motor lets it. at that rpm you do not make the same amount of pressure at our altitude so a 19lb pulley will only yield around 17 or 16. but obviously the all motor guys are hurt the worst. atmospheric pressure is usually around 760mmHg...well at our altitude its usually around 600mmHg or so. which means all motor cars literally get a few lbs of pressure taken away. rule of thumb. unless i specifically label it a UNCORRECTED number for horsepower, then it is a corrected number which means it is what the car would make if it were at sea level. a lot of people use those numbers up here unfortunately. i think its stupid to use corrected numbers. if i say uncorrected then thats what that car ACTUALLY makes on that type of dyno at our altitude. those numbers will always be a lot lower than what you are expecting the car to make. Sorry, i know its a bit confusing |
