EVO, DSM, Stealth TT & 3000GT VR-4 Tuning Service

I'm offering my e-mail and local to Memphis tuning services. I know there are several others who sell ECU Maps but the more I read the more I see a need for a better service.

How would this work?

You'll need to make a log of your current tune and a backup of your current ECU flash, then send those and your mod list to me via e-mail. I'll need 3 back to back 3rd or 4th gear pulls. Get your car to 2500 RPM and hold it there for a few seconds, then suddenly go to 100% throttle from 2500 to redline with only these items being logged.

TPS
RPM
TimingAdv
O2Sensor
InjPulseWidth
Battery
LoadCalc (load in mitsulogger)
KnockSum
AFRMAP

If you've installed injectors and need them dialed in, you'll also need to log:
Fuel Trim Low
Fuel Trim Mid
Fuel Trim High
02 Feedback Trim
Wideband A/F Ratio

The fewer the items you log, the more data per RPM we'll get, which makes it easier to see a pattern. Please don't allow the car to cool down for long periods between runs, we want to get accurate narrow band 02 readings and to do that they need to be hot. Once I receive your files and mod list, I will re-work the a/f and timing maps and send you a new flash file. You'll apply the new flash to your ECU, logs some more runs and send the results back to me. This process will be repeated until we get the air/fuel/timing dialed in and knock under control, meaning 3 or less counts consistently. I do not limit this to 2, 3, 4, or 5 flashes. Please do not make any changes to your car. I'll work with you throughout the process and explain where I'm making changes and why.

Now you're probably asking yourself.. "how is this different than the services others are providing?"

1) I'll be much more responsive... I can't count how many threads I've read about people being left high and dry with a tune they purchased from another vendor that knocks badly. They end up sending e-mails frantically to the tuner for help and get no response and have to resort to making forum posts for help from others. That must be terribly frustrating after spending your hard earned money. Some of the other tuners limit you to x amount of flashes even if your car is still knocking horribly. If you have another tuners flash and just want it tweaked I can do that for you as well.

2) I will not lock your ECU - Most tuners send you a flash that when loaded into your ECU locks it so that you cannot get back in to make changes. That means you're at their mercy. I find this very disturbing, especially when you need to make a tiny adjustment or need to flash it back to stock to go to the dealership or if you want to sell the car etc... All I ask is that my flash/maps and your logs aren't shared with others. It's YOUR ECU, tuners have no right to lock you out of it.

3) No canned tunes - Most tuners send the same base map to everyone and call it a day even though each car is different. I will be creating a custom map tailored specifically for your car. No two cars runs exactly the same even with the same mods, why would the tune be the same?

4) Pricing - visit www.tuning.com

Sources:
I use the Tactrix cable to make the connection from the laptop to the ECU. I recommend purchasing it through our sponsor Lloyd at www.TunerTools.com enter promo code RACEVIDEO and get 5% off. You can also get it from www.Tactrix.com (no discount)

I use ECUFlash from www.openecu.org to download the stock ROM out of the ECU and to upload my custom flash. It's free and works on EVOs and Subarus for adjusting the fuel and timing maps.

I use Evoscan to log variables like RPM, Timing, Knock, Narrowband 02, LoadCalc, TPS etc.. you can get it here http://www.limitless.co.nz/evoscan/ There's also a free alternative that doesn't have all of the fancy gauges called Mitsulogger and you can get it here www.aktivematrix.com

I just shot some video of me demonstrating how to connect the Tactrix ODBII cable, download the stock rom with Ecuflash, log with Evoscan and upload your new Mellon Tuning flash file. I've got a cold and sound kind of nasal

send me a private message when you're ready and I'll send you my e-mail and paypal address, then we'll get started.

p.s.

I just wrapped up tuning an EVO IX that was previously tuned by one of the most popular guys in the nation. This car has a turbo back exhaust, stock ecu controlling boost, lower intercooler pipe upgrade and it only runs 91 octane:

This one picked up ~ 40tq and 25hp ~4000rpm and held quit a bit of that to redline. This is going to feel so much stronger on the street.

and here's another one... this customer of mine was running the stock tune on a modified car. The AFR's were into the high 9's by redline! I was able to restore power:

Mellon Tuning vs Stock tune 20G-5 272cam 850cc IC 21psi - California 91 octane oxygenated camel piss (tune still in progress)

just finished up a customer with some very basic mods:
2003 EVO 8
20 lbs of Boost
Manual Boost Controller
Cone Style Air Filter
Walboro 255 lhp fuel pump
Custom 3” Turbo Back Exhaust / no cats/ no resonators/ Megan Racing Muffler
93 octane

I looked at the 3 stock ROM logs and 3 Mellon Tuning logs and pulled the best from both. Don't get hung up on the numbers, they aren't SAE corrected, what's important is how much it gained.

Mellon Tuning
hp/tq
267/265
267/265
265/256

Stock Rom
226/224
206/230
215/225

so not only is it more consistent now, it picked up at least 40awhp and 40 awtq!

I recently came across some threads on EvoM where my customers were discussing my services and I thought it might be helpful to people who are still on the fence about getting tuned.
