Question, do you run your VX2100 in auto mode or do you mess with the settings any? Whats your thoughts on all this HD stuff people are getting into? I havent seen many impressive HD videos, some okay looking stuff during the day but all the HD night videos I have seen havent been anything special.

So here's what I do:
Daytime drag racing -
-Auto focus (unless the sun it's dawn or dusk because that will mess with my focus, then I put it to "infinity" (mountains symbol)
-Audio is always set to manual because it freaks out and you get bad audio if you don't with drag racing (on this camera)
-White balance I usually set manually too unless it's bright daytime, then it doesn't have any issues.
Night time drag/street racing
-I put focus on infinity because the bright lights (headlights) to dark will throw it out of focus so quickly
-Manual audio
-White balance almost always has to be set to manual because of orange, yellow street lights but you have to change it a lot
The "infinity" setting on the sony is one of the reasons I stick with sony cameras, I don't think canon has it, I looked at a GL2 and it didn't, it pissed me off at night.
The HD cameras are AWESOME during the day but compared to the VX2100 they suck at night.

Thanks for the info. The VX2100's I used when Kevin was doing that whole SRVidz thing, were left on auto and it always came out pretty decent but there were a couple times on REALLY dark roads where it lost focus. I was curious if there were ways to maximize their use.
SRVidz is neither here nor there and I certainly dont have a VX2100 of my own....but would like to get one when the car scene picks back up.
I agree on the HD vs VX2100 thing, everybody is making a big deal about the HD stuff but other than day videos I havent been real impressed.
Are you using the factory mic on the VX2100?

Sony infinity/mountain FTMFW. Took me a few months to figure it out but, my camera went from unbearable at night to stellar.

If you go out of focus, just hold down the focus thing to go to infinity and then throw it back in auto, but if you're at a track going close to far, close to far, over and over, then it's better to just leave it at infinity.
You can tell you lose a little sharpness in the picture when you have it set to infinity though, but it's not something most people would notice and it's not worth have to adjust every damn shot when you're filming 100 races IMO

sorry to say that the camera was little...i just assumed that it was a small camera because the guy filming sure moves around well with it. when he is standing it does not appear to shake at all so i would have guessed it was a small camera he is holding versus holding a big camera for hours.

Thanks
It's about 4x bigger than a normal handheld you see anymore, it's just pefect because smaller cameras are harder to keep still but at the same time I can film for 10 hours at the track and not be dying from it.
Best investment I've ever made... seriously.
